Fury… is what happened to me on that fateful day, June 24, 2022. The day SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade in a majority 6 to 3 vote. The day a woman lost the right to an abortion, the right to choice, and the right to control her own healthcare. Taking a woman’s fundamental right away after almost 50 years left me stunned.
My need to process what has happened to me – as a member of the 51% majority US population who no longer has legal control over her body – is forcing me to respond.
In intimate serial portraits of illegal abortion victims, I strive to bring forward a visual picture of the human consequence of the loss of a fundamental right; and the inability of a woman to have control over her body and healthcare.
I want to make evident the legal, political, and victimization of women and the ultimate human consequence – death. This work is an ongoing documentation through the portrait of the victim and is always changing.
